Sometimes you just live with clutter, but other times you are just done with the clutter. This happened to Steph.

Her smart device lives on a corner of her kitchen bar along with glasses, pens, fidget toys, and more. It was out of control and visually messy.

She came up with an idea to hide the clutter but still keep it nearby. Take a look at this simple clutter-buster DIY.

Materials/Tools:

  • 1/4 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft. Birch Plywood Project Panel (Home Depot)

  • RYOBI USB Lithium Power Cutter Kit (Home Depot)

  • Kreg Multi-Mark (Amazon)

  • Center Punch (Amazon)

  • Titebond Wood Molding Glue (Amazon)

  • Olympic WaterGuard 11 oz, Clear Exterior Wood Sealer Spray (Home Depot)

Make a stand for your smart Alexa or Siri device that also holds glasses and more.
This was the assortment of stuff that lived on the corner of the bar. It was handy but so much clutter!
Using the RYOBI USB Lithium Power Cutter Kit to quickly and easily cut cardboard.
First step was to create a pattern from cardboard. This Ryobi power cutter made it easy and quick!
How to make a smart device stand and storage.
After a few adjustments, Steph had a pattern made for the design of the smart device stand and storage.
We found all the wood including the birch panel in our scrap wood pile.
We sourced all the materials we needed from the scrap wood pile. You could buy project panels from Home Depot if you need to purchase materials.
Using a Dremel Ultra saw to make a cut on this thin piece of wood.
A small, thin piece of wood requires a petite saw. Here Steph is using a Dremel Ultra saw. It's like a mini circular saw. It's very easy to use and not intimidating at all.

A miter saw was used to cut the side pieces to length.

The miter saw was also used to cut the angles in two of the side pieces as shown in the picture below.
Here's the clutter buster box all glued up and drying.
Here Steph put the sides in place to see how everything was fitting.
Cutting the storage box on the Saws Stop table saw.
Steph used a table saw to make the cuts for the top of the box. Be mindful of the saw kerf otherwise your cuts will be smaller than expected.
We used Titebond Quick and Thick glue for this project.
Steph used Titebond Quick and Thick glue to glue all the pieces together. We like this glue as it's less messy than the other Titebond varieties.
Glueing up the Alexa stand and storage box.
Getting everything glued and in place.
Glueing the box into place with Titebond wood glue.
The top half of the lid was glued into place. Those are little concrete weighs that are helping to hold it in place as it dries.
The stand and storage box was painted white to match the kitchen cabinets. Steph added mini hinges to the top of the box.

The stand and storage box hold the smart device at a better height and all the clutter is now hidden.
The hinged top was left natural to mimic the look of the TV stand that is close by. The stand and storage box hold her Amazon Alexa at a better height and all the clutter is now hidden.
You can make a stand and storage box for your smart device to banish the clutter on your counter top.
Steph also added a motion activated light inside the box. With the hinged lid, it's easy to grab what you need and then to return it when finished. This area looks so much better now.
This is a simple, customizable project for any area of your house where clutter has gotten out of control. Tame the clutter and hide all the things!

Where in your house could you use something like this?
