All of my grandchildren, including the youngest, are avid readers of chapter books.

With this in mind, I decided to make a bookstand for my granddaughter for her room back at home.

I wanted something quick as it was too hot to spend too much time in the garage. And, I also wanted to make it using the Dremel Blueprint Saw Station. I landed on a design by Woodshop Diaries. It was the perfect quick project.

Materials/Tools:

    • Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw Station with 12V Compact Circular Saw and Multi-Purpose Cutting Case (CS12V-S1C) (Amazon)

    • Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw Station with 12V Compact Circular Saw and Multi-Purpose Cutting Case (Home Depot)

    • RIDGID 18V SubCompact Brushless Random Orbit Sander (Home Depot)

    • RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V 18-Gauge Brushless Cordless AirStrike Brad Nailer (Home Depot)

    • Kilz Primer (Home Depot)

A review of the Dremel blueprint saw station.
Since we reviewed this a few months ago, I've been wanting to use it on a project.
You can make four different cuts with the Dremel Blueprint. On this project, I'll be making bevels as well as straight cuts using the edge guide.

This board was the right thickness, about half an inch but was too wide. Using the edge guide with the saw I was able to easily cut it to the width I needed.

How to set the Dremel blueprint saw station up for bevel cuts.
To cut bevels, those blue risers are put into place. Then the saw is set to make the bevels. In this case the bevels at 30 degrees.
To cut, the board is clamped into place which are included with the saw station.

After all the cuts were made on the Dremel blueprint saw station, I used a Ryobi shop blower to clear out the sawdust. Be sure to open each side and blow out the sawdust from those areas.

Showing how to put all the parts back into the Dremel saw station box.
Everything fits easily back into the box!
This is the plan by Woodshop Diaries.
After cutting all the pieces I glued them and let them dry overnight. I also added a couple of brad nails to help secure everything.
I used a little wood fill on the edges. After it was dry and sanded I gave everything a coat of Kilz Primer.

My granddaughter is a fan of the Wicked movie so this book stand will reflect that. As you know "pink goes good with green!" I'm using chunky green glitter that I sprinkled over the wet pink paint.
Here it is finished. I also added some stickers from last year's Christmas count down calendar. It was actually a good way to upcycle them.

This is how the stand is used. The open area can hold glasses, a beverage or another book!
This was so much fun to make. I saw this plan by Woodshop Diaries last December and have had it bookmarked all this time. Be sure to check out her other plans.
