Steph has had greyhounds since 2018. Her current dog, Tosh, is often joined by her friends for sleepovers. Without exception, every greyhound has rushed to the front door when the doorbell rings or when someone is trying to leave. It's a lot of greys in a small space.

Up to this point, we've always just gingerly opened the door just enough to go in and out working hard to keep the dogs contained.

When Steph was fostering a very curious and aggressive door rusher, she had a thought. "maybe a gate would work in the space to keep the dogs contained."

She did her research and here what she found!

How to install a baby gate for dogs.
In the course of her research, she found a gate that was the right width and one that could be placed above the baseboard. We did not want to have to alter or screw into the baseboard to install the gate. This is everything that came with the gate she purchased.

This gate came in 55 inch and 76 inch widths. The space to be traversed is 55.5 inches. She ordered the smaller one and hoped it would fit. And it did!

Although a paper guide came with the gate, it didn't prove helpful in placing the brackets. Steph simply placed it on the wall and drew around the brackets as a guide.

Before screwing in the top and bottom brackets, Steph drilled 15/64in holes for the wall anchors and tapped these in. Lastly she screwed the bracket into place.

There is a safety button on the top bracket to hold everything securely in place. The larger button is a safety feature which when engaged, makes the gate taut. You can see this demonstrated in the video and below.
We installed the baby gate for the greyhounds above the baseboard.
You can see here how we placed the bracket above the baseboard. Ideally, the gate would rest on the floor, but that option did not work for us because of the baseboard interference. If you have a small dog, the space created might be large enough for them to get through, but with greyhounds that's not an issue.
Here we are installing the latch side of the cumbor baby gate.
There was a second paper guide included with the gate for the latch side of the gate. It comes with double sided tape, but it kept falling down. With persistence, we were able to get the latch locations marked.

After the latches were installed, we tested the fit. It was a perfect fit and everything lined up just as it should.
The dog is waiting patiently at the gate.
Here Steph is turning that large knob on the right to tighten the top of the gate so that there is no slack. Not sure the foster is enjoying being on the wrong side of the gate!
It's easy to lock and unlock the gate.
To lock, press down and move the dial to the right.
Here's the Cumbor safety gate without the lock engaged.
This is the gate BEFORE the lock is engaged. You can see how a dog could potentially get over the top.
Here is it AFTER the lock is engaged. Very little slack in the top

Why buy a baby gate for dogs. To keep them from rushing the front door and getting out.
BEFORE: chaos at the front door!
The baby gate keeps the dogs from running out.
AFTER: the dogs are safe from running out or interfering with whoever is coming or going. These are Steph's neighbors' greyhounds over for a visit.
This was a very simple fix for a very annoying problem. Sometimes it takes time for a solution to present itself!

It's been so nice to have this in place now especially when there are visiting greyhounds. With the gate, visitors can safely enter the house and get situated before being greeted by the dogs.
