Steph has been accumulating more and more outdoor gear. It's been tucked away in a corner but it was becoming apparent a different storage solution was needed.

She came up with a lightweight semi-transparent screen that easily moves out of the way to access what's needed and then is easily moved back into place. It also hides the mess of cords on the wall as well.

Materials/Tools:

    • (4) 3/4in 60in pipe (Formufit)

    • (4) 3/4in 40in pipe (Formufit)

    • (6) 3/4in 3-way elbow (Formufit)

    • (2) 3/4in elbow (Formufit)

    • (2 yards) Vinyl mesh Fabric (OnlineFabricStore)

    • Husky 1-1/4 in. Ratcheting PVC Cutter (Home Depot)

How to hide outdoor chairs on your porch.
This is the growing pile of stuff.
Use PVC and vinyl mesh to hide all the outdoor chairs and stuff.
Here is the new cover.
We are using PVC pipe and fittings, but this is no ordinary PVC! This is furniture grade with UV protection and comes ready to use. There are no annoyingly hard stickers and printing to remove!

Vinyl mesh fabric comes in many colors. We chose a nice natural green.
We ordered two yards of vinyl mesh fabric for the covering. Laying it flat in the heat helped to removed some of the wrinkles from when it was folded for shipping.
We used a pair of Husky Ratching PVC cutters to make all our cuts. Here we are cutting 12 inches from the 60 inch pipes that will form the side pieces.

Assembling the porch storage screen with pipe and PVC elbows.
Assembly was easy and required no glue to keep the pieces in the elbows.
We lined up the mesh on the frame and then cut away the excess length.

We used self-tapping screws and washers to connect the mesh to the frame.

Here it is once we got the mesh secured into place.

We wanted a top to give the screen a finished look. We had this piece of MDF on hand which worked perfectly. We added a lip to the sides and front and painted it all out with an exterior paint.

Here it is with the top in place and outdoor chairs and more in place. Because the mesh is semi-transparent, the piece does not feel large and overbearing in the space.

Here we are showing how the storage screen easily moves in and out of place.
Because it's PVC, it's very light so it moves in and out of place easily.
This has been a nice addition to the porch as it really keeps the porch from looking cluttered while still keeping things accessible. We did have to move our original storage/plant stand out to move this in it but we did find another place on the porch for it to live. The original succulents are long gone but the Lego plants we replaced them with are still great!
