Up to now, we haven't had a system for storing sandpaper for our orbital sanders. The various grits have been stored in a drawer of a tool box with poor results. It's always a mess and very difficult to quickly grab what we need.

With this new design, we now have the sandpaper organized and readily available. And along the way, we discovered an easy way to install custom builds on our Wall Control metal pegboard wall.
How not to store orbital round sandpaper for your sander.
Yikes, this is what the drawer looked like. It was organized once, but most of the time, it's looked like this.
Here's the cut list for making a Diablo Sand net sandpaper storage unit.
We are making a six-slot storage box. Here's the cut list we used.
Since the sandpaper weighs very little, we used wood glue to assemble the unit for our Diablo Sandnet sandpaper.

We are using Titebond Quick & Thick glue. It's thicker than ordinary wood glue and works well in this application.

After glueing and letting dry the interior, we added the sides, top, and bottom. We used Rockler corner clamps to keep the unit square and clamped everything and allowed it to dry overnight.

The magic part of this build are the two holes we drilled into the top of the unit. We discovered that two small standard Wall Control hooks would hold the unit flush to the wall!

Here you see the blue hook with the pointy part of the hook fitted into the hole we drilled. This hole secures the hook keeping everything flush to the Wall Control panel.

We were able to install this over two Wall Control panels directly and conveniently placed below our orbital sanders.

We used a label maker to add the grit numbers below the sandpaper.

This is a very simple build but it adds so much organization and functionality to the garage. We were so pleased to see how easy the unit was to install using two standard Wall Control hooks. The unit could also be used sitting on a shelf or adding picture hanging hardware or a French cleat to install it on a wall.

How's your sandpaper organization looking these days?
