How to Make Giant UNO Card Stands

Does anyone need to play with giant Uno cards? Nope, but it's so much fun so why not?

Giant Uno cards presents some logistical issues for the player. Namely, they are hard to hold especially if you've been the recipient of multiple draw-four cards!

Steph designed a simple card holder built from easy to find and inexpensive 5-gallon wood paint sticks. Here's how it all came together.

Materials/Tools:

Giant UNO Card Game (Amazon)

3-pack 21” ruler sticks (AKA, 5-gallon paint stir sticks) (Home Depot)

3/8” Wood Square Dowels (look for the green paint on the end) (Home Depot)

Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw Station (Amazon)

Titebond Quick and Thick Wood Glue (Amazon)

HDX Gloss Spray Paint (Home Depot)

Spray shelter (Home Depot)

Worlds Smallest Get Wild UNO Card Game (Amazon)

Keter Ultimate Workbench (Find it in stores at Costco when available) (Keter)

How to make a playing card holder with paint sticks.

We picked up four packages 5-gallon paint sticks. Each holder needs three sticks.

How to make a card holder for giant Uno cards.

Giant Uno cards, as well as tiny Uno cards, are a thing! Uno fun comes in all sizes! We have a picture at the end to show the stand in use with all these!

Using the Dremel Blueprint saw to cut the wood dowels to size.

The wood dowels are cut to length in the same way.

We used glue to assemble the parts. The wood dowels goes between two of the vertical paint sticks and the third paint stick is laid out horizontally which is now the back of the holder. This gives the unit weight so that it doesn't fall over.

We had enough wood dowels in our wood pile for what we needed.

Cutting the paint sticks with the Dremel blueprint portable saw station.

We cut off the handle part of the paint stick for a more uniform look. All the cuts are with the saw from the Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw Station.

We used a Diablo sanding block and sandnet to do a bit of sanding on the paint sticks.

After a bit of sanding, we are now ready for assembly.

After everything was glued together and in place, we gently clamped it all together and allowed it to dry for a couple of hours. Those blue pegs help to provide resistance keeping the holder square and in place.

We used a variety of spray paints we already had, but purchased the HDX red. All worked well. This was the first time trying the HDX brand and I think it's just as good as the name brand ones. My grandson had the idea to paint each holder a color of the UNO cards!

A spray shelter is a nice convenience when you're spray painting. Also, a lazy-suzan is nice to have as well in order to easily rotate what you're painting.

Here are all the holders painted in bright, fun "Uno" colors. We tried out this Keter portable Ultimate Workbench. It pairs nicely with the Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw station.

The giant uno card holders are ready for Family Game Night.

Obviously these would be terrible hands in an actual game of Uno, but look how fun they look with their matching holder. Family Game Night here we come!

The stand in use for giant UNO, regular UNO, and world's tiniest uno!

As a family, we've had so much fun with these giant Uno cards. They are just so BIG that we find ourselves laughing at the absurdity of it all. It makes for a fun Family Game Night.

Just prior to making these holder, we purchased the worktable seen in this post. We found it at Costco. It's advertised as being lightweight and easy to assemble. It is both those things, as well as easy to breakdown and store away. It really is the perfect partner to the Dremel Blueprint Saw Station. We think these are a perfect combination for small workshops or quick projects where you don't want to bring out the Big Guns!
