My second grandson wanted new shelving for his room so that he could display his finished Lego sets. He has lots of open wall space perfect for installing custom shelving.
After measuring the space and consulting with him on what he wanted, we got started. Materials/Tools:
For this project, we are tying out this Ryobi stud finder. We've had it quite a while but had never used it. Our go-to stud finder is an inexpensive magnetic one that is easy to use and pretty accurate. This Ryobi one detects the start and end of the wall studs. The other one finds the nails that are within the studs.
It was nice to get these shelves built for my grandson. They join the two bookcases he helped build for this same room the summer of 2024.
After completing these, the other two grands asked for shelving for their rooms as well. For them, because of their limited wall space, custom shelving was not required so we headed to the local Ikea for their new shelves. As for that Ryobi stud finder. It worked pretty well, although because it doesn't find the metal within the stud, where we needed to place a screw was right on top of one of the screws in the stud. We had to move that bracket placement down because of it. Our magnetic stud finder will still be our "go-to" tool going forward. Please note: This is not a sponsored post.
