One of Steph's friends still has her VHS tape collection and asked Steph if she had any ideas on how  to maximize storage for her media.

This is Steph's solution which, by the way, can store much more than old-school media.

Materials/Tools:

    • (2) 2 ft. x 4 ft. Oriented Strand Board Project Panel (Home Depot)

    • (4) 2 in. x 4 in. x 96 in. #2 Premium Grade KD-HT Stud (Home Depot)

    • Shepherd 18-1/4 in. - 28 in. Aluminum Steel Appliance Rollers (4-Pack) (Home Depot)

    • (4) 2ft Scrap wood

    • Kreg 520PRO Pocket-Hole Jig (Home Depot)

How to make under bed rolling storage.
Wanting to keep down the cost of this project as well as limiting the amount of tools needed, Steph decided to work with pre-cut sheets of OSB and standard 2x4s.
The pre-cut project boards are very easy to transport. All the material for this project came to about $65.

This is what you need to make two shallow under bed rolling storage boxes.
These are the supplies that Steph bought to make two rolling storage trays.
Cut the 2x4 to fit the measurements of the rolling under bed storage boxes.
From the 2x4s cut (4) pieces that are 48 inches for the sides, and (4) pieces at 27 inches for the short sides.
Steph lightly sanded the 2x4s and the OSB just to prepare them for primer then paint. It was just enough to knock down really rough places.

The sides are to be assembled with pocket hole screws so here steph is making the pocket holes with a Kreg pocket hole jig.

Here's how to make under bed storage that rolls.
With the frame partially assembled, Steph glued the edges, slid the board into place and added the last side.
Here's she tightening the last of the pocket hole screws. The piece was clamped and allowed to dry overnight.

To add a bit more structural strength and to create a "pocket" for the appliance casters, Steph added support boards across each end of the units.
Lastly, primer and paint will make the units look more finished and will help contain the OSB odor.

How to make your own under bed storage that rolls.
This under bed storage you make yourself can hold old-school media like VHS tapes and books as well as shoes and bags and other collections of things.
Do you still have a vintage collection of VHS tapes, CDs, or DVDs? How do you store them?

I have none of those, but would certainly store shoes, purses, books, and out of season clothing in them.
