While Steph and I were installing the custom two-level shelving in one of my grandson's room, the other two requested shelving for their rooms.
We certainly were not going to turn down their requests but we also knew we couldn't do custom shelving since we didn't have the means to do so with all our tools and supplies in Tallahassee not Orlando. Since we couldn't do custom, we looked online for ready-made options. Our best option and most convenient was floating shelves from Ikea. There's an Ikea in Orlando, so off we went to explore and shop. Materials/Tools:
If you are shopping at Ikea, be sure to check what time they open. We got there after ten, but they don't open until 11! Oops! We decided not to wait around to "rope drop"* Ikea, but used our wait time to go to the nearby Costco and look around. Costco stores are similar, but their are some differences in what they carry so it's always fun to see what they have that ours doesn't have. *"rope drop" It's a term used at theme parks when you get there before it opens where you literally stand behind a rope until it opens. When it does, it's a free for all!
Shopping at Ikea can be overwhelming. There are three areas: upstairs is the Showroom where they have things displayed as you'd use them, downstairs is Market Hall where you'll find bins and shelves full of products, and lastly, this Self-Serve Warehouse area where we found our shelves. When you find what you want in the upstairs area, take note of where it is located in the warehouse so you can find it easily. Everything is well marked and it's quite easy to find what you're looking for. Also, there are computer kiosks, where you can search for the location of your item.
These Ikea Lack (item number: 502.821.82) were a great option for the spaces in my grandchildren's room. They were easy to install and looked great when finished.
Actually, we ended up installed a set in the guest room as well because we liked them so much! Please note: This is not a sponsored post. FYI: We are not professionals, and we don't claim to be.
