It's been a while since we've purchased a new tool. Thanks to Dremel's media campaign, I became aware of this new product.
It looked interesting so I suggested to Steph that we get it. This is our review of the features and how to use it to help you determine if this is something that needs to find a place in your DIY space. Product:
Here is the new Dremel Blueprint Saw Station. Everything is in the box including this cute, little saw.
We ordered our Blueprint from Amazon. It shipped quickly with no damage to the box or pieces inside.
According to Dremel, the saw cuts four different ways. We tried them all!
When you make a bevel cut, you add the two risers to the cutting platform. This extra depth means you can only cut materials that are half an inch thick. We found a standard piece of baseboard would fit just fine under the guide rails.
For wood that is too big to fit under the rails on the platform, there is an included guide so that you can cut larger sheet goods.
Even though the guide slipped under this thin piece of wood, it still worked well. the guide gives the Dremel saw a lot more versatility.
There are two included clamps that fit into T-tracks to hold your work piece securely in place as you cut.
To make a miter cut, you loosen the blue knob and turn the guide where you need it for the cut.

This 2x4 cutting guide is pretty clever. If you have a few boards to cut this would work great. To use it clamp the guide to the board, cut one side, turn the board over and cut the other side. It totally works although it would be tiresome if you had to cut a lot of boards.
Favorite Features
The best feature is everything you need to make a cut is in the box: saw, battery, clamps, and more. It's easy to remove everything and even easier to clean up and put everything away.
The Dremel CS12V-S1 Compact Saw is a standout. It is light and easy to use and is not intimidating like a full-size circular saw or miter saw can be. It's great for someone starting out or someone who wants a convenient option for make a few cuts.
The battery seems great too. We've charged it once and have used it for a few weeks without having to recharge it. This new 12-volt battery is not compatible with their other 12-volt models. It's a whole new design.
Fail Features
The biggest fail is the design of the dust collection. It's ineffective and it's very difficult to find wet dry vac connectors that will work. When the hose is connected, the saw is then unbalanced. Plus, once you do get it hooked up and in use, there is still a lot of sawdust left on the platform surface. This feature needs some work in our opinion.
This little square looks like a white board, but it is not. Dry erase marker would not erase or clean away. We are not sure what you are supposed to use to write on it, but we failed to find anything that would work. This would be a nice feature otherwise.
Because this is plastic, we are not sure of the durability in the long run. It would be wise, in our opinion, to be careful when opening and closing it to maintain the case in good working order. And vacuum out the dust before you close it all up. Sawdust gets everywhere in the box!
Bottom line, despite the fail features, we like this!
We think it is especially good for anyone just starting out or even for a more experienced woodworker who wants the convenience if they only need to make a few cuts.
