The persistent sound from a battery powered leak detector alerted us to a leak under Steph's kitchen sink. As it was a slow leak, it would have probably been leaking for weeks and causing damage if it wasn't for the leak detector.

Once again, our Moen flo leak detectors have more than paid for themselves as we've avoided potential water damage in both our homes.

Since the faucet would have been way more trouble to repair and it was old, Steph decided to install a new one.

This is the Flo by Moen under the kitchen sink that alerted us to the leak. We have detectors everywhere there is water including the hot water heater, washing machine, and A/C overflow.

This is the old faucet with separate water sprayer. It got the job done but it was nothing special. The leak was coming from under that oval cover plate.

We shopped a couple of stores including Costco, but all of theirs were too oversized for Steph's kitchen. We settled on a Moen we found at Home Depot.

This is the Moen faucet we ended up getting. It has an integrated spray feature which is something we wanted.

There was no paper manual included with this Moen faucet. The instructions are only digital.

This is everything that is included. Glaringly, the one thing that needed to be included was a paper manual! Having to work under a sink with a digital manual proved to be awkward.

We gathered a variety of wrenches to be ready for whatever we encountered. Those RoboGrip pliers are probably are favorite and most used ones.

Before doing anything, put a catch container below the sink. There will be water! Turn off the hot and cold water.

Use cushions to support yourself. But no matter what you use, working under the sink WILL BE awkward!

Here Steph is removing the old faucet. This part proved to be difficult as it had become stuck after a dozen years of use.

Once everything was removed, the old faucet and spray handle easily lifted out.

Don't skip this step when replacing a faucet. Take time to throughly clean the top of the sink. A good limescale removing product like Lime Away will work but in a pinch so will a lemon and a good scrub.

We pulled up the instructions for the faucet installation and got to work. The enclosed plate covers the original three holes in the sink. If your sink only has one, the plate is not needed.

The gray tightening tool is included with the faucet. It is used to secure the faucet to the sink.

Here Steph is assembling the sprayer part of the faucet using the digital installation guide.

Here the hot and cold water lines are attached. Be sure you've attached them correctly.

The water lines first hand tightened and then we used pliers to fully tighten them. After removing the old faucet we traded out the catch container for puppy pad to catch any dripping water.

The installation of the Moen kitchen faucet was successful.

With the water turned on, we tested the new faucet and it worked perfectly.

The pullout sprayer is convenient and with one less thing on the sink, the area looks less cluttered.

That black thing is the weight that makes the sprayer retract into place.

We purchased a stainless steel plug to cover the hole for the previous sprayer. It gives a nice finish to the area.

The last step, and probably the most important, is to replace the Flo by Moen under the sink.

This was a very simple upgrade to Steph's kitchen. The new sprayer is much more functional than the old one and is especially helpful for filling the water filter container.

As I've had it happen to me, it's important to note that if your sprayer does not retract, it probably means that the weight under the sink has gotten hung up on something! Check that out first before you panic!

And lastly, get yourselves some leak detectors! That have saved us on so many occasions. We actually installed them after I had a leak at my house that went undetected for a week causing massive damage!

We like the Moen flo, but there are many to choose from online.
