Project inspiration can be found in the most unlikely of places! Inspiration for this simple, easy project came from the dressing rooms at our local REI co-op outdoor store.

Materials/Tools:

    • Plywood panels

    • Upholstery tacks (Amazon)

    • Indoor/Outdoor Banister Guard (Amazon)

    • OOK ReadyNail Sawtooth Hanger (Amazon)

    • OOK D-Ring Hangers (Amazon)

    • OOK Hanging Wire (Amazon)

    • Adhesive Dots (Amazon)

    • Otter Artwork (Freehand Goods)

    • Florida State Parks Checklist Poster (Jelly Press)

How to have art like the dressing rooms at REI co-op.
This is our local REI. Inside the dressing room you'll find outdoor art in simple frames.
Look at the dressing room art next time you're at REI.
Here's some of the framed art in the dressing room.
You can use scrap wood to make this REI inspired art frame.
You'll only need a few materials to complete this project. A wood board, some upholstery tacks, a sawtooth hanger, plastic, and a few tools.
Use up your scrap wood in this project.
This is an excellent project to use up some of your scrap wood. We found everything we needed in our scrap wood pile.
This board was already the size we needed so no cutting was necessary. Steph centered the picture, covered it with banister guard plastic and simple nailed in the tacks.

The last step was to position and hammer in the sawtooth hanger. This hanger by OOK is easy to use. The nails are securely held upright and in place making it simple to hammer into place.

Disregard the hole the wood. This was used as practice for another project so this is truly a scrap piece of wood!
The poster required a larger piece of wood which we didn't have so we cut three pieces of board to size. We then glued and clamped them and left them overnight to dry.

Use OOK d-ring hangers for heavier pictures.
Because this wood is heavier, we used D-rings and wire to hang it.
Buy a poster of all the state parks in Florida and check them off as you visit.
There's no plastic covering on this so the tacks went right into the corners of the poster. This poster lists all the state parks in Florida so Steph will add checks to the circles as she visits each park.
You can frame a record album and leave the record inside.
She framed a picture drawn by her nephew and a vintage record album (record is still inside) to add to the gallery wall.

You can use whatever wood you have. Leave it natural, paint it, or stain it. It's up to you to decide.

This is a super simple way to frame art and can be customized to your taste.
