Steph and I are no strangers to garage organization. We've cleaned out and organized both our garages with great success. Now it was time to turn our attention to another garage.

This one wasn't that bad, it truly only needed a few "zones" in which to organize various categories of things into manageable areas.

Here's how we got the garage in my son's house organized.

Materials/Tools:

    • Wall Control Garage Tool Kit (Wall Control)

    • 8-Pack Heavy Duty Bike Hook, Loading Capacity 100 LBS (Amazon)

    • Pulley System for Kayak (Tie Boss)

This shows a picture of a messy garage that needs to be cleaned up and organized.
We first had to make a working space which required getting all these boxes managed. Once that was finished, we were able to sort things into three piles: throw out, give away, or keep.
this shows a cluttered garage with the clean up underway.
It took a few hours but we got the boxes broken down or if too damaged, ready to put into the recycling bin.
We stored all the shipping boxes and supplies on the shelves of a rolling wire rack.
This rolling rack was already in the garage so we decided to repurpose it into the shipping supply area. Tall or oversized boxes were stacked against the wall and smaller boxes were placed on the shelves.
Hyper Touch wire metal shelving from wall-mart.
We got lucky as we found these metal storage racks on clearance at half price at Wal-Mart. They were very easy to assemble and they worked well in the space.
No garage organization is complete without Wall Control metal pegboard. This time we ordered one of their garage tool kits. This had three panels and a variety of preselected hooks and accessories. Since we didn't really know what we were going to store here, this kit was the perfect option. The red was chosen to complement the vintage toolbox passed down from my own dad.

We organized the small tool collection with metal pegboard by Wall Control.
We gathered up all the power tools and hand tools and placed them on the pegboard. The hooks and accessories included in the kit were the perfect combination.
This is the Richelieu Garage organization system for tools with outdoor tools, brooms, and more.
We found this garage organization system at Costco and decided to try it out in this garage. This system is very similar to the Fasttrack system by Rubbermaid. We have that system in Steph's garage and have been very pleased with it so we thought this might be a similar, although less expensive option for this garage.
Here's are all the components in the garage organization system we found at Costco.
This is what is included in one package of the Richelieu Garage organization system we purchased at Costco. We used one and one half boxes.
how to install the Richelieu Garage organization system
We found the wall studs and used four screws for each rail. They can be mounted next to each other or in a solo arrangement.

We used six of the 8 panels. Everything is flush to the wall making it still possible to park a car and to be able to get out without issue.
We used this pulley system to hang one of the kayaks in the garage.
Lastly, we needed to find a way to store the two kayaks out of the way. Steph found this pulley system that we decided to try out.
Here we are securing hooks into a ceiling support. Another hook fitted into a drill makes it easy to screw the hook into the ceiling.

We connected the pulley to the hook and hoisted up the kayak.

It's a little challenging to hoist it by yourself but it can be done.

The completed garage. All items are in their proper zone and is easily accessible.
All finished. Everything is in its proper zone and the kayak shows no signs of falling down!
We will eventually change the other kayak but will wait until we are sure the system holds tight. You can see behind the ladder that we moved the shelving out a bit and tucked the second kayak behind it.

Although this garage looked daunting to get organized, it was actually much easier than when we did mine. It just needed a little time to clear out the boxes and then find everything a home for everything.

We were lucky to find those racks at half-price as well as the small worktable under the circuit box. The two original plastic shelving units were repurposed onto the back patio for gardening needs along with another one of the worktables.

Now that everything has a place it's been very easy keep everything neat and organized.

Steph and I are really happy how this turned out.
