We all have them, including Steph: beautiful postcards that languish hidden away in a closet with no easy way to display them.

Steph has a collection of National Park postcards that she wanted to display so she designed a display piece that also doubles as a way to store them. With this design, the postcards can easily be swapped out. The oversized display means it can accommodate any size postcard!

Materials/Tools:

    • 1/2 inch plywood

    • Dremel Blueprint Portable Saw Station (Amazon)

    • Rockler Portable Drill Guide (Rockler)

    • Makita 18V LXT Sub-Compact Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 2-piece Combo Kit (Driver-Drill/Impact Driver) 1.5Ah (Home Depot)

    • 1/4in Forstner bit (Amazon)

    • Push Pins Tacks (Amazon)

    • RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Rotary Tool Station (Home Depot)

    • Tite Bond Quick and Thick (Amazon)

    • Rare Earth Magnets (Amazon)

    • Gorilla Clear Grip Waterproof Contact Adhesive (Amazon)

    • BEHR Satin Clear Fast Drying Oil-Based Interior Polyurethane (Home Depot)

Display your postcards of all sizes with this storage display unit made of 1/2 inch plywood.
This is a great 'use what you have project.' Steph collected all the 1/2 inch plywood she could find in our scrap wood collection.
This project requires a lot of small cuts which can be difficult to make. Steph used a variety of cutting methods including using the Dremel Blueprint Saw Station to make the cuts for the postcard display.

This is the cut list for the postcard display box. The measurements are based on the largest postcard that could be displayed. The measurements can be adjusted for the size postcards you want to display.

Rare earth magnets provide the holding power for the postcard. Steph used a drill press with a quarter inch Forster bit to precisely drill a hole for the magnets.

Steph cut the pointy end of a push pin off. Once removed, she'll glue on a magnet.

Once the pointy end of the push pin was removed, a bit of the metal remained. Steph easily removed it with a rotary tool and grinding bit.

It's wise to wear gloves to keep from getting your fingers sticky with the contact adhesive when setting the magnets into place.

This is such a simple idea, but so fun. It's great to have a way to display them without the benefit of digital technology.

Who has postcards that are currently stored away in an old shoebox? Go dig them out, make a display box and start sharing memories of your adventures!
