This summer we discovered "bunch o balloons” (self-filling water balloons), and boy are they a bunch of fun! The nephews/grands enjoyed many water balloon fights with them!

We discovered once the balloons were gone, we were left with plastic water hose fittings which looked like they’d make an awesome DIY fountain. Check out the video above to see the fountain come together!

The leftover hose fittings from Bunch O Balloons

Step one was to clean up an old, dirty terra cotta pot we found in the backyard and then painting it with a pop of color.

An old metal serving tray was found in mom’s garage which fit perfectly into the top of the pot. We drilled a hole in the middle of the tray for the balloon hose to fit through and drilled additional holes though the metal top for water to drain. The tray was then painted with the same paint as the pot.

In the garden department of Home Depot, we picked up a basic fountain pump, tubing, and hose adapter.

We wanted the fountain power cord to come out the bottom of the pot so we first enlarged the hole to fit the plug through, then we cut a piece of foam to the size of the hole to fit around the cord.

Then we sealed the hole so it was leakproof, we used Sugru, which is a waterproof, moldable glue.

We cleaned up an old planter stand and used it to hold the fountain on Steph's porch. We filled the pot with water to cover the pump.

Then we screwed the balloon hose in place, put the metal plate on top, and added clear rocks.

Plug in the pump and done! This fountain is a great addition to my porch. This idea could be used in other fountain or pond configurations. I can also switch out the balloon hose if this one gets damaged or I want a different color.

And this fountain looks really cool at night!

I made the bunch o balloons water fountain It turn out nice but you didn’t mention that it splashes a lot. I have a wet spot all the time it is running. So eventually you run low on water so you have to fill it back up. That is the only draw back I have about this project

Im a little late to the party I guess, lol. Can't you just refill the water by pouring more water over the rocks and it will drain thru the holes? Sounds simple enough! Also how much splash do you have with your fountain and have you come up with any ideas to solve this? This sounds like an awesome DIY and like someone else mentioned, way more affordable than buying a fountain at the stores. Thank you!
Btw, I just discovered your site today!

Hi Cat- we get less splash when we adjust the plastic rocks on top. Yes, we can add new water easily. So glad you discovered our site! Did you find it in a google search or other source? Thanks!
