We recently helped Steph's neighbor get his yard in shape. It had become overgrown and out of control.

Due to the timing of yard trash pickup, we had to start working in the backyard first in order to get all the yard debris out at the curb for pickup the next day.

While Steph worked in the backyard, I started on the front. You can see that process in the first yard makeover video.

Tools:

  • RYOBI 40V Expand-It Cordless Battery Attachment Capable Trimmer Power Head with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger (Home Depot)

  • RYOBI Expand-It 8 in. Brush-Cutter Trimmer Attachment (Home Depot)

  • RYOBI 40V Brushless 20 in. Cordless Battery Walk Behind Push Lawn Mower with 6.0 Ah Battery and Charger (Home Depot)

Behind this fence gate is literally a jungle of weeds.
Neighbor David had warned us the backyard was a jungle, but really, we weren't prepared for what we saw...
The weeds were literally as tall as the fence in some places.
...yikes, he wasn't kidding. The weeds were literally as tall as the fence in some places.

We knew we only had one tool in our collection that was going to be able to tackle this backyard--the brush cutter. This is one of the attachments to the Ryobi 40 volt Expand-It outdoor tool system. All the attachment fit on the handle which you see on the far right.
Cutting the weeds at the gate and working our way further into the backyard.
Starting at the gate, Steph started cutting the weeds.
The Ryobi Expand-It system uses a 40 v lithium battery.

As Steph cut the weeds, they were carried out and put curbside for pickup. It took about 90 minutes to get all the weeds cut and out of the backyard.

Once all the yard debris was removed, Steph mowed the grass with her Ryobi 40 volt lawn mower. This uses the same battery as the Expand-It system.

Ahhhh, much improved!
The Ryobi Expand-It brush cutter really is the star of the backyard makeover!

You're probably wondering why the weeds were so out of control in the backyard. Unfortunately, the lot behind his was clear cut early in the summer causing David's once shady yard to be in full sun. Full sun plus weeds growth infiltrating his yard from the lot behind him created perfect weed growing conditions!

There's a lot more to be done in the backyard. The fence and the deck need to be replaced as well as some sort of grass or hardscape added to the backyard.

We were happy to at least get this much done for him!
