As part of the Home Depot ProSpective campaign, we get sent some neat tools to try out. One of those tools this quarter is the Makita Brushless Cordless Blower kit. As soon as we opened the box, we wanted to see how this blower stacked up to our current 18v cordless blower. This fall was a perfect time to test it out, as I get a huge amount of pine straw in my front yard and normally have to use a rake to clean it up.

Before we tested it, we took a look at the features. This is a powerful blower, using two included 18v batteries which gives you 36 volts of power and longer runtime.

Tools:

  • Makita 18-Volt X2 (36-Volt) LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Blower Kit with (2) Batteries 5.0Ah and Charger (Home Depot)

There are two battery indicators to let you know how much power is left.

Charging is fast with the included dual port rapid charger, which includes a USB slot for phone and accessory charging. (It's right there in the lower right-hand corner.)

There are 6 speeds to choose from, and you can lock the trigger in the ON position.

The front nozzles can telescope to match the users height.

The first test was to use our current 18v blower to see how it did with the pine straw.

It really didn’t move the pine straw very much as you can see. The 18V blower works much better on dry leaves.

Next we tried the Makita blower and the first thing we noticed was how much power it had! At the top speed, it almost pushed me back with the power it had, but it was still very manageable. It's heavier then our current blower at 9.9 pounds. Although it has more weight to it, its very well balanced and does not seem to be fatiguing. I was able to get my front and back yard cleared with battery power to spare.

Mom wanted to try it out in her much bigger yard- especially to quickly clean up her fallen Bradford pear tree leaves. It worked perfect and now mom has requested that the Makita blower live at her house :)

If you have a larger yard and want to be able to clean up all kinds of fallen materials, this blower is worth checking out!
