by Vicki Sign up to get Mother Daughter Projects updates in your email! So, there was that time we entered a contest and ended up as a finalist for a national TV show! Upon hearing about the Home and Family DIY Star contest, I decided to enter. As a longtime viewer of the original “The Home Show” by Woody Frazier Productions to the current edition of Home & Family, I really wanted to give the contest a go. To enter, contestants had to create a one minute video showcasing their DIY talents. Steph was on board with the idea and served as my one-woman production crew and editor. She made me look good. We would have entered together, but the contest was for DIY “Star” not “Stars” so she sat this one out. Initially bummed that few people “liked” my video, I set aside any thought of winning and was content with the idea that I had made something that my grandchildren could see and know that when Oma was almost 62 she stepped out of her comfort zone to do something challenging to fulfill a longstanding dream. To my surprise, an email followed by a phone call from a Home & Family Executive Producer came late Monday, April 18 explaining that the show liked my video and she was calling to tell me I was one of 25 finalists for the contest! Trying to be cool and calm, I stated, “well, that’s exciting!” Not only did they want me, they also wanted Steph. The whole Mother Daughter Projects team! I called Steph right after and could barely contain myself as I yelled into the phone “Steph, we’re going to California!” She immediately drove over, in her pajamas, so I could recount the entire chain of events. All I can say is, my husband told us he had never seen the two of us happier! It was tough to get to sleep that night. More emails and details happened the remainder of the week, with a phone call arriving on Monday giving us our travel arrangements to California and with that piece of information, our anxiety level has been brought back to around normal! Social media posts went out on the 25th as we were given the okay from the show to share. We have been so overwhelmed with the support of our family and friends! This week we are watching the finalists to get a feel for the types of questions we might be asked as well as working out the details of our DIY project. We can’t wait for the trip and Steph can’t wait to be around the production crew and watch how the show gets made (her background is TV production so this is a dream for her too!).

I wouldn't want to have to select a winner among all the talented entrants, but you two sure have that winning look to me.
