Do You Need a Spray Paint Shelter?

Recently we were trying to spray paint, under a deadline to finish, but it was really windy out wrecking havoc with our efforts! We needed help. We searched Steph’s garage and came up with a child-size pop-up tent. Surely this would work!

We found out quickly that our homemade spray paint tent didn’t provide the wind protection we needed, plus it kept blowing over and there was no way to secure it into place. It’s a great play space for kids, not so much a paint space for DIYers!

Our kids pop-up tent version...
Fast forward a few months, we were sent a REAL spray paint shelter by the folks at HomeRight. After our experience with the little play tent, we were eager to see how this thing measured up. HomeRight has two sizes, we were sent the smaller of the two which is perfect for small projects.

The shelter comes in a convenient zipped bag with the unfolding/folding instructions securely attached inside the bag.

Once out of the bag, it just pops open! The front has a large opening with bottom that is larger than the tent footprint.

Tie-downs so you can spray in the wind and it won’t blow over!

And a velcro back panel that can be opened and closed for ventilation.

The bottom is large enough to add a lazy susan and has ample room for it to move. We could stand to one side of the tent and still paint all while not getting paint blown back on ourselves.

Refolding after use was just as easy—a couple of twists and turns and it returned to the size needed to fit into the bag (watch video at top of post to see in action).

The small size of the bag and carrying handle means it can be stored on a hook in an out of the way location.

Do I need it?
For spraying small objects in less than ideal situations makes this a must-have tool for the DIYer.

Do I have something that can already do the job?
A variety of makeshift hacks can potentially be put together to something similar, although we tried without success to DIY this product.

Bottom Line:
If you do a lot of spray painting and want to keep your area (garage, house, car, etc.) clean and be able to spray in windy conditions, this spray shelter is well worth adding to your homeowner tools.
Please note: We are not sponsored by HomeRight. We were given this spray shelter to try out. All thoughts and options are our own and based on our experience.

Great idea! Where was this product when I was spray painting a sand and water table? Looks like you'll won't waste time and paint. Will buy!
