We here at Mother Daughter Projects like technology, so the new Tick from Milwaukee is something we've been wanting to try out. The Tick is an app based, bluetooth enabled device that helps you keep track of your stuff!

Here's what you need to know:
  • The Tick is a small plastic device, powered by a replaceable battery that you attach to stuff you want to keep up with (think inventory control). It attaches to the item with epoxy, screws, rivets, or cable ties.
  • The One Key app is a free dowload and each individual Tick is activated and registered within the app.
  • When the app is opened and you are within 100 feet of your Tick enabled item, it will tell you if your item is within range or the last place the app "saw" it.  If your item is not where you left it, you can mark it as "lost."
  • Once something is marked as "lost" that's when the community of other One Key app users takes over. If the signal from your "lost" item is picked up by another One key app user a location of that "lost" item will be sent to your phone helping you to track its location.
  • The ability to find an item is directly related to the number of people adopting this technology. The more folks that use it, the larger the coverage, the more likely your "lost" item will be located.

The Tick is marketed for use on tools, but consumers can use it for things like a spare key (who had that key last?), luggage, boat, and more.

...well she's right. Since we have tools at both of our house, the Tick can help us know what tools are where.

Fill in all the information needed for the item you are tagging with a Tick. You can even add a picture of your item. This is also how you can use the app as an inventory list.

Is a Tick for you? For a pro, knowing that all their tools are on the truck so nothing is left behind means less loss. For a vacationing family, knowing all the suitcases are in the car means everyone has clean underwear when they arrive at their location! Add it to your nice camera or bike so you always know where your high price items are.

Milwaukee has been developing the One-Key technology for many years now and has this tracking feature and more built into over 15 of their tools. The Tick is another great step as you can put it on practically anything and have the peace of mind of knowing where it is. As more users adopt the technology, the better the system will get!
