As a tea drinker, it's important to have the right water temperature for the type of tea. I bought this stainless steel tea kettle a few years ago, and love it because of the different temperature settings, and the ease of use. But after a few months, it begins to get some harmless limescale at the bottom.

This is what I do to get rid of the limescale.

Product:

  • COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle with 5 Variable Presets, Pour Over Kettle & Coffee Kettle, 100% Stainless Steel Inner Lid & Bottom, 1200 Watt Quick Heating, 0.8L, Matte Black (Amazon)

According to my tea kettle manual, limescale is formed by minerals in the water and is harmless. Limescale may also accumulate at the bottom of the kettle due to poor water quality. The form and color may vary.

It's very noticeable when I just drink hot water (which I love to do when it's cold outside).

Steps to Descale Kettle (from kettle manual)

  1. Fill the kettle with 1 cup / 237 mL of distilled vinegar or lemon juice and 2 cups / 473 mL of water (1:2 ratio) and boil.
  2. Allow the mixture to soak in the kettle for 2 hours.
  3. Pour out the mixture, then wipe off any remaining limescale with a non-abrasive cloth, sponge, or cleaning brush.
  4. Rinse the kettle with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
  5. Repeat as needed.

The manual doesn't say to, but I like to do another boil of just clean water to make sure there is no vinegar taste to my next cup of tea.
