Both Steph and I don't take care of our yards in any meaningful way. Although we both would like a less weed filled and green yard, we've never tried to sort out the options on how to do that.

When we were offered the opportunity to work with The Home Depot and Scotts® using just two products, it was an easy 'yes!' We are both looking forward to improvements in our yards this season.

Take a look at how you can become your "neighborhood lawn pioneer!"

Products:

  • Scotts Turf Builder 13.42 lb. 4,000 sq. ft. Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer (Home Depot)

  • Scotts Turf Builder 20.2 lbs. 4,000 sq. ft. UltraFeed Lawn Fertilizer (Home Depot)

  • Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader (Home Depot)

  • Scotts Wizz Spreader (Home Depot)

This is what we are using. First Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer and then eight weeks later, Turf Builder UltraFeed Lawn Fertilizer.
This is what we are using. First we'll apply Scotts® Turf Builder Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer and then eight weeks later, Turf Builder UltraFeed™ Lawn Fertilizer. Simple! This is lawn care we can get behind!
The Turf Builder Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer (if you're not in the south, you'll have a fertilized designed for more northern climates) will kill common yard weeds like this clover
The Turf Builder Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer (if you're not in the south, you'll have a fertilized designed for more northern climates) will kill common yard weeds like this clover, as well as dollar weeds, dandelion, chickweed and more. Check the back of the bag for details or head to their website. We found a lot of good information on the website.
The Turf Builder Triple Action South Lawn Fertilizer will kill and prevent fire ants.
And this is a bonus for us in Florida where fire ants plague us year round! It kills and prevents those pesky ants.

The yard is looking sad with the only green coming from a healthy growth of weeds!
Use the Scotts My Lawn app to determine how much Turf builder and Ultra Feed you will need.
The Scotts® "My Lawn" app is easy to use and provides a handy calculator to determine how much product you'll need for your yard. Steph's yard is tiny, under 400 square feet, so one bag will do her yard and many of her neighbors! She's willing to share. Actually, my yard is much bigger so the leftover will be used at my house!
We headed to The Home Depot to pick up what we needed.
We headed to The Home Depot to pick up what we needed. We also could have ordered it online and used curbside pickup.
We picked up our Scotts Turf Builder and Ultra Feed which is exclusive to the Home depot in the garden department.
In our Home Depot everything was conveniently located near the front entrance of the garden center. We grabbed a flatbed and loaded up what we needed!
We got everything we needed including two kinds of Scotts spreaders in the garden department at the Home depot.
We picked up a walk behind spreader as well as the Wizz handheld for smaller areas. Note: the UltraFeed™ is exclusive to the Home Depot.
Now to apply the Turf Builder. First step, mow the yard.
Now to apply the Scotts® Turf Builder Triple Action South. First step, apply after the lawn had been mowed three times. That's a Ryobi battery powered lawn mower that Steph is using. Fun note: Steph let her neighbor borrow this and he ended up getting one as well because he liked it so much!
Next, fill the hopper of the Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader with the Turf Builder.
Next, fill the hopper of the Scotts® Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader with the Turf Builder Triple Action South.
Walk behind the Scotts Turf Builder spreader to dispense the products.
And now, just simply walk around the perimeter and then the interior of the yard dispensing the product. Use the edge guard feature of the spreader while walking the perimeter to keep the product off sidewalks, the driveway, and off the street. Don't forget to turn this feature off when you walk the interior part of the lawn. (I warn you because I may have failed to disengage this feature. Oops!)
Using a hose to water in the Scotts Turf Builder.
The last step is to water in. I did this with a hose since the yard is so tiny. Steph's yard slopes toward the street so I had to be careful not to flood the area which would have caused the product to run into the street.
Three days after we applied the Turf Builder Triple Action South, we were excited to see the weeds already starting to wither! In eight weeks we'll be applying the exclusive to The Home Depot, bag of UltraFeed™. We can wait to see the results!

After watering in the Turf Builder Tripe Action South, be sure to let it dry throughly before allowing children or pets into the area. (In the video, you can catch a glimpse of Steph's greyhounds watching us work through the window!)

This was such an easy and uncomplicated process. Scotts® has done a good job making this a very doable DIY project for even the most brown-thumbed homeowners like us!

So, like Steph and I, “Are you ready to achieve your ultimate lawn goals?”
