Learn how to DIY a pallet sign to cover or remove the scalloped trim found on many kitchen cabinets. This is a unique window treatment using a pallet hack!
Many kitchens of a certain age and cabinet style often feature a scalloped piece of trim over the sink. It's a decorative piece that Steph did not want in her kitchen, but did not want to remove or  replace the board. How then to disguise the dated piece? Cover with a removable pallet wood sign, of course!

Materials:
  • Pallet slats (you can find these for free on craigslist or by lots of dumpsters)
  • French Cleat (Amazon)
  • Chalk
  • Paint pen (Amazon)
Learn how to DIY a pallet sign to cover or remove the scalloped trim found on many kitchen cabinets. This is a unique window treatment using a pallet hack!
Here's how we made the sign.
  1. Steph cut three pallet boards to length and used a Kreg jig to secure the boards to each other. She finished with a quick sanding.
  2. As "Gilmore Girls" fans, this quote from their theme song was just right for us!
  3. Steph printed the words of the quote to the size she wanted and arranged the placement on the boards.
  4. To transfer the words, I rubbed chalk on the backside of the paper and then used a pen to go over the letters on the right side. This methods acts like tracing paper to transfer the words to the board.
  5. Next, I used a white paint pen to outline and then fill in the letters. Tedious work, but pretty simple to do.
  6. Once the lettering was completed, Steph added a French cleat to the back of the pallet and the other part of the cleat to the scalloped cabinet.
  7. Perfect fit and perfect camouflage for an outdated decorative trim piece!
