We've been way overdue posting a smart home product! We hadn't planned on reviewing anything, but as it turned out, we found an inexpensive camera at The Home Depot that we found intriguing.

We have a number of different smart home cameras in each of our homes. They have lots of features and a price tag to match.

We bought this Wyze Cam so we could see how it stacked up against the others we already have.

Basically with this camera, you plug it in, set up the app, and you're in business in a couple of minutes. You can put it where you need it and change the location as it is not permanently mounted. It has a magnetic base so it can go on your metal pegboard, refrigerator, or other steel surface.

Below are three ways you could use this camera in your home.

# 1 Garage Door

The first tip is to install it in your garage facing the garage door. Why? Did you leave the door open? You can easily be reassured that it is closed by logging into your camera's app to see a live picture of your garage.

# 2 Dog or Kid Cam

Suggestion two: monitor your pet when you're away. Mac likes to hang out by the windows when Steph is gone, so the back of the couch makes a great place to position the camera. There is two way communication through this cam, so you can listen in and offer words of comfort if your pup is agitated.

You can take pictures and save video clips to!

#3 Kitchen + Alarms

Wyze cam monitoring safety in the kitchen.
Monitor your cooktop or oven. Ever left either of these on? Hummm, am I the only one? With a camera focused on these area you can check to see that everything is off. You'd need a more permanent location, but we staged this on the fridge so you could see it attaches to anything steel.
There is a zoom feature in the app so you can get a closer look with the Wyze Cam.

Wyze Cam Setup

You can buy the Wyze Cam with or without a SD card.
You can buy the camera with or without the SD card. With the card, we paid about $30. Without the card, it retails around $20.
The Wyze Cam's set up is very easy.
The set up could not be easier! Steph actually sets this up in real time which you can see in the video.
The SD card fits into this slot on the Wyze Cam.
The SD card goes into this slot on the bottom of the camera. The saved footage can be saved to your computer.
Final verdict? This is a great little camera. Lots of features, easy to use, and no extra monitoring service to buy. It's an easy way to add some simple monitoring to the interior of your home. It's not recommended for outdoor, but I would think you could put it in a inside window if you wanted to monitor a front sidewalk or driveway.
