When we saw these blue star shaped pool noodles at Target we knew right away we had to DIY something with them! With July 4th right around the corner, the stars would be perfect for a red, white, and blue patriotic theme!

We came up with four very easy to make ideas using varies slices of the pool noodle.
  1. Flag centerpiece
  2. Pool Noodle Garland
  3. Hotdog holders
  4. String light decor

Take a look at what we came up and then add your suggestions in the comments.
The pool noodles in the Target display.
The pool noodles come in various shapes and colors, but the star shaped one caught our attention!
We purchased two blue pool noodles.
We picked up two as well as a bag full of stuff!
Supplies:
  • Star Shaped Pool Noodle (Target)
  • 4th of July Paper Goods and Flags (Dollar Spot @Target)
  • Red tissue paper (Amazon)
  • Wired stars (Joann Fabrics)
  • App Lights (The Home Depot)
  • Wire (Amazon)
  • Miter box/saw (Amazon)
  • Tape (Amazon)
  • Small battery powered lights (Amazon)
Cutting the pool noodles with a miter box and saw.
We started by using a miter box and saw to cut our slices to size.
You can also use a bread knife to cut the noodle.
The miter box made it very easy to precisely cut the noodles so the ends were perfecly flat. This can also be done with a cutting board and serrated knife, like a bread knife.
Supplies from the Target dollar spot.
Some of the supplies we purchased from the dollar spot. Note, the straws did not get used in the decor.
The centerpiece is made from three lengths of pool noodle.
1) The centerpiece was made with different lengths of pool noodle. I stuffed a little bit of tissue into the holes so that the flag would not go all the way to the bottom of the noodle. I wanted them to sit up a bit. A small square of tissue was put into the hole and everything was set on a blue plate.
The garland slices are about 3/4
2) To make the pool noodle garland, I cut 9 slices of pool noodle about 3/4" thick. These were strung together on wire with the slices separated by coasters and flags. I used a very large needle threaded with jewelry making wire to pull the wire through the top point of the slices.
Put all the garland stars on the wire first.
All the garland stars were threaded onto the wire first. Look close at the top and you can see the wire.
To finish the garland we added small battery operated lights to the centers.
To finish the garland we added small battery operated lights to the centers.
Add the coasters and flags to the garland with tape.
I taped the wire to the work bench, spaced out the stars and then taped the coasters and flags into place. Make sure the coasters are not upside down!
Add shimmery star garland to each of the stars.
We also add a bit of shimmery wired star garland to each of the stars.
Cut the hotdog holders to 61/2
3) Hotdog holders! We decided the pool noodles looked like a fun way to display hotdogs! We cut the noodles to 6 1/2".
Cut the light stars about 1/4
4) To dress up a set of App Lights (sold at Christmas time from The Home Depot) we cut slices of pool noodles about 1/4" thick.
Add toothpicks to keep the holders upright.
To keep the holders upright we added toothpick "legs" near the front and back the holder.
Add the stars to the strand light bulbs.
These are LED lights that don't get hot, so we feel comfortable using the stars temporarily as decoration over the bulbs.

All finished. We added a bit of wired, shimmery stars around the centerpiece. Those App Lights can actually be used year round as the color can be programmed to match all the holidays and seasons. Look for these lights whenever the holiday display goes up at The Home Depot.
This is a fun way to serve hotdogs!
The hotdog holders make a fun, unexpected place to display and serve hotdogs! Keep the hotdogs food safe with these basket liners cut to size to fit the noodles.
These party decorations can literally be made in minutes. Grab a fun shaped pool noodle and see what you can make. These decorations will be perfect for our annual Forth of July family party at Steph's house!
