How to Clean and Lubricate a Sliding Door Track

We've been on a cleaning streak these past few weeks since we've had so much time at home and because the weather has been amazing!

Part of the porch clean up was a little maintenance on the sliding glass door. If you have one and it's not moving as well as it once did, it probably needs a bit of cleaning and lubricating. More than likely, you already have what you need in your supplies.

We are cleaning the sliding glass door track.

We're using WD-40 Specialist spray, a household cleaner and vac with a narrow tip, paper towels or microfiber cloth.

The first step is to vacuum as much of the dirt out of the track. Make sure to move the door to get both sides. After vacuuming, use a household cleaner to scrub out stubborn stains and grime.

After both sides of the track are clean and dry, we added the WD-40 Specialist to the sides and top of the track. Again, move the door to do both sides. Slide the door back and forth to evenly distribute the spray.

We noticed the track was bent in places so Steph used a pair of pliers to bend the edges back into place. A simple, but effective fix!

One last fix on this door. The screws on the backside of the handle would not stay tight so we decided to use this Loctite Threadlocker to fix them once and for all!

The gel is easy to apply, but watch out, it is thin and will drip if you get to much on the screw thread. Keep a paper towel handy or you'll look like you were in an unfortunate accident!

And just like that, a simple, but annoying loose handle was fixed!

All the repairs and cleaning are now done on Steph's porch. The weather has been breezy and mild so we've been doing a lot of porch sitting. Rather than going out for lunch now, we are now enjoying lunch on the newly cleaned porch!

We actually tracked down a water leak in the garage that was coming from the fridge on the other side of the wall. No repair though, we turned off the water and will be in the market for a new fridge! Any recommendations?
