Learn a quick way to find the center of a circle or the center of a wood round.
We just finished making DIY wireless charging neon nightstands. During that build, we realized we needed to find the exact center of the wood round, so the pipe flange would be placed properly. We researched a way to find this center, and below is the method that worked for us!
Materials:
  • Wood round (Amazon)
  • Cardboard box
  • Marker (Amazon)
  • Steel framing square (Amazon)
  • Long ruler
  • Tack and tape

This is what it should look like when you have all the lines in place.

Place your round on top of the tack, and push it down. When you pull up, the tack should be in the back.

2. Draw a square around the circle, we used a Steel Framing Square to help.

Double check the center by using a ruler to make sure it's the same distance on all sides.

A simpler way to find the center is to trace the circle onto newspaper, cut it out, fold in half and in half again. Lay the quarter circle of paper along the edge of the wood piece and mark where the point of the paper is.

Another super easy way is to take a straight edge longer than the width (diameter) of the circle and make a very light mark about 1 inch long on the measured center. repeat 2 more times from different angles on circle and the intersection of the 3 lines is the center,
