We want to thank The Home Depot for sponsoring this post!
Earlier this year, we made over an underused closet at Steph's house into a highly organized and functional craft storage space. The last step in the makeover was to add lighting. We decided Philips Hue lightstrips. With these we could get the bright light we wanted, as well as the ability to control them remotely or to set them up to turn on with motion.

Both Steph and I have been using Phillip Hue lighting for many years now and have been impressed with the simple setup and long term ease of use. These lightstrips are no exception--they're easy to install and require no attention once they are setup to active with motion.

Product:

  • Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance LED LightStrip Plus Dimmable Smart Wireless Light (Home Depot)

  • (3) Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance LED LightStrip Plus Dimmable Smart Wireless Light Extension (Home Depot)

  • Philips Hue Smart Wireless Motion Sensor (Home Depot)

  • Philips Hue Smart Bridge (Home Depot)

The Phillips Hue lighting products.
We started with the Lightstrip plus kit and added 4 extension packs to reach around the whole closet. In the front is the motion sensor.
App controlled Phillips Hue lighting strips.
The lightstrips can be connected with those little white connectors or connected directly to each other. Once they are connected and plugged in, they are then setup with the Phillips Hue App on your smart phone.
The setup is quick. Just give your lights a name and room assignment.
Steph has a lot of Hue lights already added to her app. The app will automatically recognize your new lights. You simply give them a name and assign them to a room!
The Phillips Hue lighting hub.
The Phillip Hue lights are operated from a central bridge (hub) that is plugged into your home router. The bridge can handle 50 lights and 12 accessories (the motion sensor being an accessory).
Remove the paper from the sticky back.
Installing the lighting strips was a simple matter of peeling off the strip backing...
Stick the lights onto the wall.
...and sticking it to the either side of the door opening!
You can't see the lights from the outside of the closet.
The lights themselves are only visible if you're inside the closet.
They provide lots of light to the dark closet.
The lights really brighten up the closet space.

The motion control sensor stuck to the Wall Control metal pegboard.
The motion sensor has a magnetic back which was convenient as it stuck easily to our Wall Control metal pegboard. The sensor picks up motion when the doors are opened and then turns the lights on.

The Phillips Hue lighting is the perfect addition to the craft closet. With this lighting we can easily see everything in the closet. The lighting makes it very easy to find what we need.

I searched for this project - nicely done! Two comments:
1) Your "Product" table says you used "(3)" extensions, but when I read the article it stated "4". Given the closet size I assume 4 is correct.
2) If you find the "glare" of the LEDs to be too powerful, you can get metal mounting plates with a diffusive lens: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCS0WE8 .
This could be useful if lights face downwards from the ceiling, for example
