There is nothing cuter than a dog in a bandana! With two greyhounds, we have a lot of bandanas. With so many, we needed to find a compact, easy way to store them.

Steph came up with a great idea for a bandana stand not to be confused with a banana stand! Take a look at how it all came together.

Materials/Tools:

  • 1 in. x 1 in. x 36 in. Wood Square Dowel (Home Depot)

  • 3/16 in. x 36 in. Zinc-Plated Round Rod (Home Depot)

  • FOSHIO 2PCS Plastic Razor Scrapers Knife with Contoured Grip + 100 PCS 1.5 inch Refillable Double Edge Plastic Razor Blades Ideal for Auto Window Tint Vinyl Tool Application (Amazon)

  • Kreg KMA2900 Multi-Mark Multi-Purpose Marking and Measuring Tool (Amazon)

  • Dewalt 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Band Saw (Home Depot)

  • Command Picture Hanging (Amazon)

  • Rockler Portable Drill Guide with Vise (Rockler)

  • Everbilt 1 in. Zinc Plated Non-Removable Pin Narrow Utility Hinges (Home Depot)

The project uses two materials, these 1"x36" wood dowels and metal rods. If you make a layered version, you'll also need small hinges.
Use a FOSHIO plastic scraper which is available from Amazon to safely remove the stickers from the dowels.
Each individual holder is made with a 36" wood dowel and three metal rods. The first step is to remove the stickers and sand off any sticker residue. We always recommend this plastic scraper for this job.
The stickers were scraped off the rods, but the remaining residue needed a little removal help from WD-40.

Using a Kreg multi-mark to mark the location of the holes for the rods.
She's marking the placement for the holes. Starting 1/2" from the top, and marking ever 2-1/2". 12 in all.
Drilling holes in the wood dowel that will hold the metal rods on which the dog bandanas will be stores.
Using a 3/16" size drill bit, 12 holes were drilled all the way through the dowel.
Cutting metal rods with a DeWalt portable band saw.
Using a portable band saw, Steph cut each 36 inch metal rod into four pieces, nine inches each.
The stain color is Varathane Briarsmoke.
No glue needed. Steph simply tapped the rods into place. By the way, the dowels were stained prior to this step. The stain color is Varathane Briarsmoke.
Using the Rockler portable drill guide to make the holes.
Steph initially finished two storage stands, but in the meantime, she added another greyhound, Tosh, and we ordered and received this portable drill guide from Rockler! It made drilling the holes in the third wood dowel so EASY!
Adding hinges to connect the three wood dowels in the bandana stand.
She decided to hinge the three together to take up less space.

We used 3M strips to hang the bandana stand on the side of a piece of furniture.
The dog bandana storage system is attached with 3M Command picture hanging strips.
Here it is--three layers of bandana storage--a total of 36 spaces.

There's room for a few more!
