Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It's naturally occurring and can be found in homes and other building everywhere.

Testing is a simple way to discover if your home is at risk.

Radon Test:

This is the box as it arrived. It's also the box you will send the test back in. So put it in a safe place.

You'll need to complete a little paperwork which will be included in the box when it is returned.
There are detailed instructions about the test and where to place it in your home.

The radon test looks like an old film canister.
This is the radon test that needs to be placed in your home from 30 days to 1 year.
Place the detector in a location on the first floor away from drafts and in a space where it won't be disturbed.
Steph placed the test on this shelf that is about six feet from the floor. There are certain requirements for placement such as putting it on the first level of your home, away from drafts, and in a place where it won't be disturbed. The instructions included give you more details.
Mail the test back and wait for your results.
After the collection period is over, everything is mailed back in the same box in which the test arrived. It even has a prepaid label to use. Steph got her emailed results in about a week after the test was sent in.
It was certainly reassuring that the radon gas in Steph's home was at non-problematic levels. Basically, the level was the same as you'd find outside. Good news!

If there were unsafe levels of gas, the American Lung Association has a lot of information on what to do to mitigate the problem.
