The time has come to wash the Home Reserve couch cushion covers since it's been a year. Although, the covers don't look dirty, we know they are as dogs and humans have made daily use of the couch.

Prior to attempting to wash the cover, Steph contacted Home Reserve to get first-hand information on exactly how to safely wash the cushions. She made the graphic below which summarizes their advice. (click on graphic below to download and print)
This the a graphic of the washing instructions for the Home Reserve washable sectional couch.
Removing the covers from the Home Reserve ottomans.
Steph didn't want to crowd the cushion covers so she washed a few at a time starting with the three ottoman covers. By folding the cushions in half, they were easy to slide out of the covers.
Here the three home reserve footstool covers are being put into the washing machine.
Steph loaded the three covers into the washer.
Adding Woolite detergent to wash the home reserve fabric cushion covers.
She added the recommended amount of Woolite to the washer. Woolite is a very mild detergent that can also be used for hand washing of fabrics.

Lastly, a cold water, gentle or delicate cycle was selected for washing.
Pulling the ottoman covers out of the washing machine.
Forty-one minutes later the cycle was finished!
Home Reserve recommends putting the clean cushion covers back into place while they are still damp. We did this and it worked perfectly.

Putting the cushion into the clean cover and then adding the ottoman support pieces.
With the cushion back in place the wood support pieces are slid into place. These are white because we chose to paint all the wood frame pieces when the sofa was originally assembled.

Now, onto washing the rest of the covers. Steph did this two sections at a time (for a total of four covers in a load). Again, she didn't want to overcrowd the covers in the washer.
Hand-washing one of the Home reserve sofa cushion covers to see how much dirt is released.
As an experiment, we hand-washed one of the cushions so we could see if it was actually dirty. You can see from the dirty water that it was! The lesson here is just because this Home Reserve fabric doesn't show dirt, it doesn't mean it's not dirty!
Here is the sofa all nice and clean and looking just as good as it did a year ago.
All finished! The cushions washed up beautifully and look exactly like they did when the couch was assembled one year ago. When Steph ordered her sofa she bought the higher grade fabric for her sofa. It has proved to be a good investment in the way the fabric has held up over the last year.
Although it did take some time to wash all the cushions, it ended up being a very easy project. The cushion covers came off easily and took only a bit of effort to get back on. Putting the covers on damp left them looking fresh and wrinkle free!

The fabric has worn extremely well and clean-up of small spills over the year just took a bit of water and a paper towel. There is NO pilling or other visible wearing of the fabric or sagging of the front edges of the cushions.
