There is an awkward space above the bar at Steph's house. We've addressed the weird openings above it, but not the awkward wall space itself. We are taking care of that in this post.

The awkward space will now be a focal point in the room with the addition of a Nanoleaf panels. Don't know that those are, read on!

Product:

  • Nanoleaf Elements - Wood Look Hexagons Smarter Kit (7 Panels) (Amazon)

  • Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look Expansion Pack (3 LED Light Panels) (Amazon)

  • Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look Smarter Kit -7 Smart LED Panels (Home Depot)

  • Nanoleaf Elements Wood Look Expansion Smart LED Panels (Pack of 3) (Home Depot)

Steph chose the Nanoleaf Elements in wood look. It comes with seven hexagons, power panel, cord, connectors, and mounting tape.

Showing the backside of one of the nanoleaf elements wood grain panels.
A look at the back shows the sticky mounting tape in place and the connection points. They are on all six sides for maximum flexibility in setting them up.
On the floor trying out different configurations of the seven Nanoleaf elements panels.
Steph laid out two measuring tapes the size of the wall and started trying out different configurations. You can freestyle or use one of the patterns suggested by Nanoleaf.
Attaching the Nanoleaf panels with connectors.
To install the panels, you simply remove the protective backing on the mounting stickers and use a connector between two of the panels. Make sure these fit securely otherwise the panels won't light up.
Applying the Nanoleaf elements in place on the wall.
Now, you add the panels to the wall, apply 30 seconds of pressure in a circular motion and then move onto the next one.
Here's the Nanoleaf elements wood grain installed on the wall.
This is what it looks like when it is off.
The Nanoleaf elements lights in various color temperatures of white.
Here it is in one of the pre-set modes.
The Nanoleaf Elements can also be programmed to show one color temperature.
I'm thinking Steph should apply some removable vinyl pumpkin faces next October for Halloween!

The Nanoleaf is a smart device that you control with your phone. You can manually control it with the control panel show in the photo above.
You can use the Nanoleaf elements with Alexia, Google, or Apple Home Kit.
With the phone app you can do so many things. Also, it's Google, Apple, and Alexia enabled.

Okay, I kind of want this in my home now! My favorite feature is the rhythm setting. In that setting it reacts to sounds--music, talking, dog barking. It's super fun!

There are lots of different Nanoleaf products available. You can get them with color changing lights or white like we got.

We ordered ours from The Home Depot, but you can also get it from Amazon.

By the way, the kit comes with seven panels, but after we installed it, Steph decided she wanted three more. We think the additional three really completes the piece.
