Like many around the country, we have a Kohl’s store that is closing. Merchandise has been discounted and as stuff is sold and fixtures emptied, the fixtures themselves are being sold. On a recent trip to the closing Kohl’s we scouted the fixtures to see if there was anything we could use in our homes or in relation to Mother Daughter Projects.
The fixtures that immediately caught Steph’s eye were the dozens of Z racks. These are used to hold clothes but Steph saw another potential use—studio equipment storage and backdrop holder! We bought one that has three horizontal bars. Our Z rack now holds lights, a roll of backdrop paper, and more. It’s portable so we can roll it right up to our table and take ‘beauty’ shots of finished projects complete with backdrop.
On our second trip, we found some small fixtures that we can use to stage finished projects. I don’t know if we will use these little tiny metal tables, but they were too cute to pass up! The frosted box will make a great light box to highlight finished projects. There's lots of potential in these staging props and when not being used for staging can be used as storage.
If you have a store closing in your area right now, think outside the box at how you could use the fixtures for your own purposes. What could you store on a Z rack? Do you need more storage in your closet? Even though the fixtures are used they all were very solid and had a lot more life in them and many were in ready to use condition.
