Steph had a hodgepodge of lighting in her garage, all with different color temperatures and there was not enough of it. It was time for an upgrade!

We purchased linkable lighting fixtures and installed them to remedy the lighting situation. They plug in so no wiring was needed.

Product:

  • Commercial Electric 4 ft. 20-Watt Plug-in Direct Wire Integrated LED White Linkable Strip Light Fixture 1800 Lumens 4000K Bright White (Home Depot)

  • Commercial Electric 5 ft. Linking Cord for 1 Light Strips and Shoplight (Home Depot)

  • Wemo Mini Smart Plug 3-Pack, WiFi Enabled, Works with Amazon Alexa (Amazon)

  • Skylight Flat Panel by Artika (Amazon)

Getting ready for the lighting installation in the garage.
The lights come with everything you'll need for installation. You'll find the cords inside the fixture. The cover comes off easily with a flathead screwdriver.
This is the connection for a cord.
There is a connector like this on each end of the fixture. Either a connection cable goes here or a plug.
Adding the screws to the ceiling to hang the lights.
The lights have two keyhole hangers on the bottom side which fit onto screws to hold them to the ceiling.
Adding the first fixture to the ceiling.
The screws fit into the larger part of the keyhole and then the fixture is moved slightly so the screws move into the smaller area of the keyhole to lock the fixture tightly to the ceiling.
Installing lighting on the opposite side of the garage.
Now we are adding lights to the other side of the garage. We used a laser level to line up the edge of this one with the one on the other side.
We used these nail in cable wire clips to keep the cords close to the ceiling.

We can control the lights via Alexa or on an iPhone.
The ceiling lights are plugged into a smart plug. These can be controlled via an app or through a smart home device such as Alexa.
We installed a skylight LED panel from Costco to replace the existing fixture.
We finally got rid of the fluorescent fixture and installed this skylight LED panel. By the way, we like this fixture so much we installed two more at my house! To see the install of this, click on the project as the end of this post.
The new lighting makes it easy to see everything on the Wall Control tool storage wall.
After working in the garage for a while, we decided we needed additional lighting on this side of the garage! We added two more fixtures. Oh, hey, you can see we got the Wall Control panel up and organized!
