Here's a quick gift you can make for that friend with whom you share special memories. You can use any printed photo, but this one is sized for retro cool Polaroids!

Grab a small piece of lumber, the stain of your choice, and a few clips and you're ready to build.

Materials/Tools:

  • 1 in. x 8 in. x 6 ft. Premium Kiln-Dried Square Edge Whitewood Common Board (Home Depot)

  • 3/8 in. Wood Dowel (Home Depot)

  • Large Black Bulldog Binder Paper Clips (Amazon)

  • OOK 533862 ReadyNail Sawtooth Hanger, Picture Hanger, Gold Finish (Amazon)

  • Stanley Hand Tools Miter Box (Amazon)

  • Rockler Portable Drill Guide (Rockler)

  • 1 qt. Weathered Gray Semi-Transparent Interior Wood Gel Stain (Home Depot)

  • Polaroid Originals Lab - Digital to Analog Polaroid Photo Printer (9019), The Polaroid Lab (Amazon)

  • Polaroid Originals Color Film for 600 (Amazon)

  • Polaroid Originals B&W Film for 600 (Amazon)

  • Polaroid Now+ Black (9061) - Bluetooth Connected I-Type Instant Film Camera with Bonus Lens Filter Set (Amazon)

Supplies to make a polaroid picture holder.
We are using a 1x8 six foot board, a 3/8” dowel, three clips, a saw tooth hanger, and three polaroid pictures.
The polaroid picture gift if fifteen inches wide.
We decided to cut the boards 15 inches wide. If you use larger photos, you'd probably want to make the stand wider.
In order for the Polaroid frame to be displayed on a table top, we are adding dowels to the back as a stand.
Although this step is optional, Steph wanted the frame to have the ability to sit on a tabletop by using wood dowels as supports as well as to hang. Here she is marking the placement for the dowel holes three inches from each side.
This Rockler portable drill press makes it easy to make accurate holes.

The wood dowels were easily and safely cut with a hand saw and miter box.

The board was sanded and then stain with Varathane gel stain in weathered gray.

These ReadyNail hangers take all the frustration out of installing a sawtooth hanger as the nail is already firmly in place!
A sawtooth hanger was added to the back. These ReadyNail hangers take all the frustration out of installing a sawtooth hanger as the nail is already firmly in place! Grab your own using our Amazon affiliate link in the materials list. You'll never want to use a "regular" sawtooth hanger again!
Adding the clips which will hold the polaroid pictures in place.
The last step is to evenly space the clips and screw them into place. Done!
With the addition of the dowels, the frame will stand on its own!

Now, if you don't have a Polaroid camera, you can buy a Polaroid Originals Lab which will make a Polaroid of any picture on your phone--how cool is that!
Download the Polaroid Originals Lab app, select the picture you want, and follow the prompts.

This vintage Polaroid OneStep camera still works!
Or you can use a vintage Polaroid camera like Steph has. I found it at a yard sale and surprisingly it still worked! Both color and black and white film are still available for purchase.
Time to wrap up this Polaroid phone holder gift for Steph's friend.
All that's left is to wrap this up!
The first picture is a DIY furniture refinishing project, photo two is greyhound, Mac, with her stuffed Polaroid camera and photo (the "photo" is under her face), and the third is from Steph's trip to Colorado a few months ago.

There is still time to make one or a dozen of these for holiday gift giving!
