Unboxing the Sensi wi-fi smart thermostat.
This year, we are part of The Home Depot #smarthome campaign, which means we get sent the latest smart home products to try out and share with you!

When we received the Emerson Sensi Touch Wi-Fi Thermostat, we debated where to install it, as we both have smart thermostats already installed in our homes. I decided to try it at my house, as my Nest thermostat is 5 years old, and I wanted to see what this new technology had to offer.
There's a video to help with the Sensi install.
Like all of the #smarthome products we have installed recently, Sensi provides a step by step video that makes the process very user friendly. There are also written instructions.

Product:

  • Emerson Sensi Touch Wi-Fi Thermostat with Touchscreen Color Display (Home Depot)

Checking the wiring compatibility using the Sensi install app.
The setup with very straight forward. The Sensi phone app has step-by-step instructions for install. The most challenging step of most thermostat installs, is making sure the wiring you have lines up with the new thermostat. I really like that on the Sensi website, you can check to see if your wiring will work even before you buy the product.
Connecting the sensi thermostat to the wall.
The thermostat connects easily to the wall with two included screws.
With all the wires labeled, it's easy to be sure they have been put into the correct places.
The wires pop easy into the corresponding terminal, with the phone app guiding you the whole time. Since we were replacing an older #smarthome thermostat, the wiring already had existing labels from that install. We didn't use the labels included with the Sensi.
The fully installed Sensi smarthome thermostat.
Once you have the base and wires in place, the front just snaps into place. All the features can be controlled on the device itself or on your phone. One of the nice things about this thermostat is the shape mimics that of traditional ones. Because it fits over the same area as the old one, no touch up painting was needed. That was not the case when we installed the original Nest and then the Ecobee at Mom's house.
Sensi is compatible with Apple HomeKit.
My favorite feature is Sensi is compatible with Apple HomeKit! If you have Apple devices, this is a must. I can now use Siri to control my thermostat (I couldn't with my old thermostat).
The temperature shows up nice and large on the phone, and can be adjusted up or down on the right side.

The Sensi has a nice LED back glow feature.
It also has a nice LED back glow feature. This looks cool on the wall, and can be used as a nightlight.
I've had this installed for two weeks now, and have a few thoughts about it so far. I like the easy install with no guess work. I love that it is compatible with Apple Siri and Amazon Alexa, so I can use voice control using either assistant. It also has a feature called "Geofencing" which is suppose to turn the temperature 3 degrees up or down when you are away from home. I have it turned on, but can't really "see" it working, as it works while I'm away.

Who is this for? This is a great, DIY install product for someone new to smart home technology. If you want to be able to control your thermostat with your phone, do some scheduling, and have some automatic adjustments--this is a great pick!

There are a lot of smart thermostats on the market now, and a great place to look at all the options is at The Home Depot. In the HVAC aisle, there is a great display of all the models and detailed features of each one. And with the Sensi, you can check out the website before you buy to make sure your system is compatible.
