We are continuing to bring you reviews of smart home products as part of The Home Depot SmartHome Campaign. Today's post is all about smart light switches.
We got to try out two different switches by Leviton. You may not know the name Leviton, but you may have their products in your home and not know it! When we had electrical work done in the garage earlier this year, the electricians used all Leviton products. It's a company that's been around for a long time and they know their stuff! They have now entered the smart home market with a variety of products including these two switches. 
Using smart home switches is a way to automate the function. These switches can be control via an app as well as remotely when you're away from home.
We will not be taking you step by step through the installation of the switches themselves. We are not electrical experts and don't feel comfortable walking you through the process. We did hardwire theses two switches ourselves, but only did so for the following reasons:
If we had not felt comfortable with the installation process, we would not have hesitated to call in electricians. It's very important that you know your limitations and if electrical work is not in your skill set, don't chance it--call in a professional. 
With the Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi 15A LED/ Switch we can operate the lights via an app. No more walking into a dark garage. Both the switches came with the choice of a white or beige rocker cover. The switch does not come with a wallplate, so be sure to pick one up.

Once the switch is installed, it is time to download the app and pair the switch with it. The app walks you easily through the set up. It only took a few minutes to be up and running with the app.
A simple command to Alexa, "turn off garage light" and off they go. This is going to be a handy feature because a very tall tool box is going to be placed on that wall with the switch. Once in place, the switch will be awkward to access.
See that tool chest? We just added that to the garage and put it in front of the light switch. Not a problem- we can control the lights with our phone or alexa voice control.
In the dining room we installed the Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi LED Dimmer switch. It's important to be sure that the bulbs in the fixture you're using are dimable. Not all LED bulbs can be dimmed.
The Leviton app can be shared so the Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi LED Dimmer switch can be remotely controlled. Steph can even control them from her house.
These are the two colors of rocker covers that come in the packaging.
This is the Leviton Plus 1-Gang Screwless Snap-On Decora Wall Plate in white. I love that there are no unsightly screws. This switch can also be controlled manually like any other standard switch. You touch that little bar on the right to control the dimming feature.
