7 Storage Solutions for Your Garage Workshop

One thing you can always count on as a homeowner is always searching for better and more efficient storage! We are no exception.

Here are a variety of storage options for garages; especially if your garage is also your workshop like ours. 

1. FastTrack Rail System

This Rubbermaid system was one of the first storage solutions we installed in Steph's garage. It is still sold and the system features lots of hooks to hold a variety of tools. It's especially useful for things with handles!

2. Magnetic Screw Storage 

This is a modern take on an age-old way to store nails, screws, and other small bits of hardware. We glued metal washer on plastic jars, installed a magnetic bar underneath a shelf, and popped them into place. Easy!

3. Shelf Storage Unit

This Husky storage unit stores so many totes! This is especially useful for things you want to keep but don't want to see on a daily basis. We use some of our totes for seasonal decor. Although those tables are not storage, never-the-less, they are super convenient to use in a workspace. They are on wheels so you can move them if you actually want to park your car in the garage. 

4. DIY Outdoor Tool Storage

Expanding outdoor tools with multiple attachments are great, but they do present unique storage challenges. Steph came up with a couple of really clever solutions for storing the Ryobi Expand-It system and the Milwaukee QUIK-LOC system. One is wall-hung and the second one utilizes the space in an unfinished 2x4 wall. 

5. DIY Scrap Lumber Storage

When your scrap lumber supply tumbles out of control you know you need a solution! Here are solutions for large and small scrap wood storage. 

6. Kiddie Car Storage 

When we were planning the remodel of my garage, we needed to take into account a small kiddie car that we needed to store. If you have one, you know how much space they take up. This solution stores the car in its own "garage" leaving space on top for storage. 

7. Wall Control Metal Pegboard System 

No round-up of garage storage solutions is complete without mentioning Wall Control metal pegboard. We have an entire YouTube playlist of Wall Control storage solutions for basically every room in the house. It's that versatile! See the jars on the left? Those are those same nail storage containers we previously shared, but we updated them with magnets on the lids so they now attach easily to the underside of a Wall Control shelf.
