By DIYing storage you can create exactly what you need, for the stuff you need to store. Here are five unexpected DIY solutions to try out! 1. Under Bed StorageHere are two solutions for storage utilizing the space underneath your bed. The first is for a bed with just a few inches of space in which we used an old crib to build rolling storage for shoes. In the second, we built large rolling storage boxes to fit into the large space under this bed. Steph stores lots of bulky items like bags and winter clothing in them. 2. DIY Wall Hung CabinetThis DIY cabinet utilizes wall space but no floor space giving the room a more open feel. Storage like this can be customized to your space and decor. 3. Bathtub StorageMany homes built in the nineties have these large garden tubs. Although, you may love and use yours, Steph does not! She built a simple cover that opens and closes so she can use the tub for storage of things like tissues, out of season clothes and more. The lid is not permanently attached so it can be removed without damage to the tub area. 4. 2-Sided Rolling StorageThis two sided rolling "bookcase" fits into a niche in Steph's laundry room. It holds re-chargable batteries and paints. Most people store these in their garage, but both paints and batteries should be stored in a temperature controlled space. The side we see from the laundry room door holds things we need to grab quickly like the batteries and the other side holds spray paints and stains that we use less frequently. Also, there is a handle on the side for easy moving! 5. Floating Shelf with StorageAhhh, this one is sort of for fun, but it is also practical! We upcycled old card catalogue fronts and turned them into a floating shelf with secret storage. Rare earth magnetic are the secret to removing the front. I think one of the best things about DIY projects is how you can customize them for your space and needs. With ready-made storage, you have to figure out how to make it work in your space rather than the other way around.
